Why You Shouldn't Give the Government Backdoor Keys to Your Encrption

The Federal government insisted that every luggage maker give the government a backdoor key to their luggage locks -- and the government promptly released the keys to the public so no ones' luggage is secure any more.

Anyone who thought luggage was secure before the TSA demanded master keys and released pictures of those master keys is delusional. The small padlocks typically used for luggage are relatively easy to break, and if you wanted to just cut through the side of the luggage.

True, but if the TSA cannot even keep this minor thing under wraps, what about something that is significant and important.

  3. Matthew Slyfield:

The TSA does security theater. They aren't involved in anything significant or important.

The most likely luggage thieves already had the master keys - they work for the TSA.
