If I were a representative on the Hill, I'd have my staff print up every page of federal statutes concerning health care and health insurance, wheelbarrow (or train of wheelbarrows as I suspect) that monster stack down to the floor, point to it and say: "There's the problem, and we expect to fix it by adding 1500 more pages to the pile?"
There is wagering (via InTrade) about whether the bill will be passed by the end of this year. But, I could find no wagering on the final length of the bill. I've got dibs on 2200 pages. With so much money at stake, I'm certain that 100 Senators and 435 Representatives can add another 700 pages of pork and favors.
We need to get some radical Republican (say, Ron Paul, perhaps) to add a poison pill amendment to the health care bill. Say, repeal of NFA 1934 and GCA 1968.
