How does he want to achieve this independent press? He wants the Obama Administration to appoint a czar or something. Because we all know how independent GM's decision making has been since Obama dived in there. And don't forget the fiercely independent EPA, which suppresses any internal dissent to Obama's positions. Or the fiercely independent inspector generals who get fired when they look into Obama's friends. And don't forget the fiercely independent John Woo, who was willing to write that just about anything the last Administration wanted to do was legal.

I think Dan Rather has lost his mind a long time ago. The Press has given the name "yellow journalism," an entire new meaning. If Dan Rather wants a fiercely independent press in the media who are not held accountable for the bogus information they write, and slanted views they spout out depending on their political agenda...then "a democracy and free people" will not be able to thrive. Dan Rather needs his prescription for his psych medications refilled.

Dan is a deceiver. Dan's free press = distortions at will! And it means if it cannot survive on that model, then government should provide funding to insure its existence. And all of Dan Rather type press should be controlled to death.
