Spent over two hours trying to sign up on the Connect for Health Colorado website. After I put in all my personal info but BEFORE I could actually enroll I first had to sign up for and wait to see if I'm eligible for Medicare, which because of my income and assets I know I'm not. Regardless, to continue the O-Care application process, I have to wait for a formal Medicaid or CHP+ denial notice from the State. Otherwise I won't get the federal tax credit which will increase my premiums from currently $290/month to $405/month. Who knows when the State will get around to sending me a denial notice?
Horse pucky. So I tried to chat with the CO site to see if I could speed things up. Got:
You are currently number 1 in the queue. We apologize for the delay. We will assign you to an agent as soon as one is available. The average amount of time a customer has to wait is 00:29.
00:29 what? I'm #1 in the queue, so it must be 29 seconds, right? Waiting, waiting, waiting...half an hour later the message changed to:
You are currently number 1 in the queue. We apologize for the delay. We will assign you to an agent as soon as one is available. The average amount of time a customer has to wait is 00:13.
Hooray!
Five minutes later:
There are no agents available to chat with you right now. Please try again later.
Crap. So spent another hour online signing up for Medicare knowing full well I wasn't qualified to receive it. A week later I got a snail mail from the State's Medicare contractor wanting lots of "proof" about income and assets. I gave them a call, waiting on hold for half an hour, and was told that I should expect to wait 30 - 45 days for the denial letter.
