This is Congress's Job, Why?

I am not at all clear why the Congress needs to take a formal vote on a resolution condemning a legal act of free speech by American citizens.  Yeah, I get the politics of this move.  But can't they focus on more important issues, like approving official national days for obscure vegetables.

On the one hand I agree. Stupid. Pointless. Waste of time.

On ther other hand, I like the waste of time part. The more I think about it, if Congress (and the President) spent more of their time on pointless (non-binding, non-intrusive) activities like this, they would have less time to spend on actually doing things that intrude on our lives. This seems to be about the only hope we have left at this point.

CRC beat me to it. What (s)he said.

Yea, Warren, I think you missed the big picture benefits on this one. This is ALL Congress should be doing.

The resolution offers Congressional Democrats an opportunity to distance themselves from Moveon.org without having to return any checks. If it weren't for the resolution, they would have to show that they disagreed with Moveon.org.

A national holiday in commemoration of an obscure vegetable? That'll keep the masses happy.
