Nominations for the Worlds Biggest Failure
Forget Scott Norwood, or Bill Buckner, or even Susan Lucci. I nominate Paris Hilton's parents.

Richard Nikoley:
Then again, so far as I know Paris Hilton hasn't harmed a flea in all of this. Smells to me like more of an exercise in ego on the part of the prosecutors and judges than of anything resembling justice.
I'm sure there are varied personal reactions to being locked up for 45 days when you haven't harmed anyone. I'd probably just suck it up and try to move on, but I don't begrudge others having different reactions. She hasn't harmed anyone, so there's not a reason in the world she out to feel any remorse.
Anyway, here's my wider perspective on the deal, in blog form:
Ego "Justice"
Nasty Egos

Which is why I've long advocated the use of exile rather than incarceration in cases of "Celebrities Behaving Badly". Make the sentence 30 years, suspended so long as she never sets foot in the state again:
"Ms. Hilton, you lost your California privileges."
Repeat as necessary for Nevada, Florida, New York, Illinois, Georgia, etc.

"Hasn't harmed a flea"? Wasn't she originally sentenced for DWI? That's hardly a victimless crime, even if no one happened to have been harmed on the particular outing in which she was arrested.

Right now we are updating our files on Ida Camburn. This “grandma†is nothing but trouble. She provides safe haven to just about any criminal who knocks on her door. She hates families and religion and there’s just no telling what she’ll do next. But don’t worry, the site will always have the latest information on her.
But I have a problem. A bunch of Indonesians are attacking me. I am offering a substantial reward, paid once again by the company, for your help in finding and stopping these zealots.
You can see the details on the reward section of the site. You can also email me at jphillips@actfortitle.com or also mlundgren@actfortitle.com or also asolorzano@actfortitle.com or also fberriz@actfortitle.com or also jsmith@actfortitle.com or also cbryant@actfortitle.com or also the actual reward email itself reward5000@earthlink.net
Help us stop these guys and put some clean cash in your pocket!

My peeve for literally years has been the lack of good information on the bad people in our communities.
So I did something about it.
I created the website http://www.religiousfreedomwatch.org
It has been out there for some time but given the sorry state of the world and the ever growing number of terrorists on every corner I thought I would let you know about it.
Hardly a day goes by that it is not voted either the most useful or the most ethical site on the internet.
If you wonder if the new girl at your office is a Jihad cell extremist, this site will tell you.
If you wonder if a guy you met is really a child molestor, this site will tell you.
Don't be surprised if I tell you this site is the one used by the FBI CIA and Homeland Security as well as media to check things. Major airlines express thanks daily that we are there to keep the next group of 9-11 suicide Muslims off their flights. Even though I think religious freedom is important this whole business of Extreme Jihadist Islam is one of the major issues we are facing in the 21st century. I am trying to do something about it!
Now this site is free and it always will be. My company is American Coast Title and it is very profitable. We pay all of the fees for this site and keep it up to date. Not long ago we helped a special task force capture wanted terrorist and fugitive bomb maker and grave robber Keith Henson!
Right now we are updating our files on Ida Camburn. This “grandma†is nothing but trouble. She provides safe haven to just about any criminal who knocks on her door. "That's hardly a victimless crime, even if no one happened to have been harmed": gosh, a Philosophy exam question is lurking in there.

Not that complicated -- if I wave a gun in your face, tell you I'm going to kill you, and then pull the trigger, only to discover I forgot to load it, have I committed a crime? If so, did it have a victim?

Curmudgeon sounds like Dr. Pritchett:
"Man? What is man? He's just a collection of chemicals with delusions of grandeur. A miserable bit of protoplasm, full of ugly little concepts and mean little emotions -- and it imagines itself important! Really, you know, that is thew root of all the troubles in the world."
"But which concepts are not ugly or mean, Professor?" asked an earnest matron whose husband owned an automobile factory.
"None," said Dr. Pritchett. "None within the range of man's capacity."
A young man asked hesitantly, "But if we haven't any good concepts, how do we know what the ones we've got are ugly? I mean, by what standard?"
"There aren't any standards." This silenced his audience. "The purpose of philosophy is not to help men find the meaning of life, but to prove to them that there isn't any."

It isn't every day someone quotes Atlas Shrugged, yet a surprisingly large number of people seem to be able to.
All I can say is that the state has made it illegal to drink and drive (and for damn good reason), therefore, those laws should be enforced. They must be applied to everyone equally. I definitely don't think we should just let drunkards go driving and *hope* that they don't kill someone. They have to learn a lesson somehow. A short stint in the big house is nothing compared to the guilt a normal person would feel for killing someone. Whether or not Paris would experience guilt is a whole other thing...

Paris is not in jail for hurting fleas, or even risking running into fleas while DWI. She recieved probation for the DWI.
She is in jail for REPEATED violations of driving with a suspended licence (from the DWI). She was being frequently stopped and warned by police due to bad driving.
Paris could have hired a limo for a few months, until she got her licence back. Her parents could have hired a media cunsultant (i.e. chaperone) to drive her around, and ensure she wore undergarnments, until she learned to do these things for herself.

If the wisdom of crowds could decide, the thing to do would be to put Ms. Hilton, Lohan, and Spears, in a poll--to decide which of the three, is the biggest disappointment.
Although, it's probably a distinction without a difference.

I think it should be legal to fire an automatic weapon in a crowd, so long as the rounds do not hit anyone. My position is philosophically sound, and that's what matters.
