Pink Jumpsuit for Sheriff Joe

Via Expresso Pundit:

It's becoming increasingly clear that Sheriff Joe--and probably County Attorney Andy Thomas--are going to be indicted on multiple felony counts.Maricopa County Manager David Smith issued this statement today.

Today's grand jury appearance was a welcome opportunity to tell our story on behalf of County employees.  Dozens and dozens of County employees, and some County vendors, have been targeted by Sheriff Arpaio and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas with retaliatory criminal investigations without cause, and disruption of their working lives without justification.

Sandi Wilson and I expect to return to the grand jury to give even more detailed testimony in three or four weeks about the many abuses of power by Sheriff Arpaio and his office that were generally described to the grand jury today.  We look forward to that next opportunity in the interests of justice.

lol ... maybe he should spend some time in tent city.

While it seems pretty clear, at least to me, that Joe's become more part of the problem than the solution, and he should probably go, I think it wise to wait and see where all this is going.....

Relying on information at other sites, the grand jury proceedings are secret and only the witnesses may talk. So what we have is all based on Mr. Smith's statements. (Ms. Wilson has declined to comment.) These other sites have noted that Mr. Smith hired a criminal defense attorney, which (according to those sites) may indicate that it is not necessarily (only) the Sheriff who is at risk.

Also, for those who did not follow the link: espressopundit bases the conclusion (that the Sheriff will be indicted) solely on the premise that that is the only reason grand juries are convened (i.e., a grand jury is reportedly investigating the Sheriff, therefore the Sheriff will be indicted).

yeah, well, that might not all turn out like you hope. arpiao's the guy who regularly wins re-election with...what...70&? 75% of the vote? so your jury pool has a 3-in-4 chance of favorable bias towards him.

so if they try him and they LOSE, a real possibility with a jury pool like that, will arpiao come out of it MORE or LESS beloved? MORE or LESS powerful and uncontrollable?

I can see the headline now.

"Grand Jury Returns Indictments Against Entire City and County Government Except Sheriff and DA"

If he is wearing that pink jumpsuit, you can bet it is made of Teflon.

I am so tired of political correctness gone wild, Go Joe!

If they are unable to secure an indictment, then they should be brought before the grand jury themselves for launching a "retaliatory criminal investigation without cause, and disruption of their [Sheriff Joe and County Attorney Andy Thomas] working lives without justification."

This is nothing more than a politically motivated attack on Sheriff Joe.

83% of warrants for murder in Phoenix are for illegal aliens.
40.1% of all inmates in Arizona detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
63% of cited/stopped drivers in Arizona have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 63%, 97% are illegal aliens.

But, Sheriff Joe is the problem? Give me a break.

Sheriff Joe is probably the only sane person in the Criminal Justice system. This man does his job well. Maybe he needs to run for President?
