Friday Funnies, via the UN

I just couldn't bear to post this at my climate site, which I really try to keep science-based.  Since this doesn't have even a sniff of science to it, I will post it here for your entertainment:  According to the UN, Global Warming Causes Prostitution

The effects of climate change have driven women in communities in coastal areas in poor countries like the Philippines into dangerous work, and sometimes even the flesh trade, a United Nations official said.

Suneeta Mukherjee, country representative of the United Nations Food Population Fund (UNFPA), said women in the Philippines are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change in the country.

"Climate change could reduce income from farming and fishing, possibly driving some women into sex work and thereby increase HIV infection," Mukherjee said during the Wednesday launch of the UNFPA annual State of World Population Report in Pasay City.

At least now Al Gore won't be the only climate whore.

This one is just dying for someone to add 'think of the children'.

Also, someone needs to look into the moral consequences of people in colder climates wearing less revealing clothing.

  3. Global Warming:

This sounds much like the logic of one "Gail 'the Rail'" who ran for office in Virginia. When asked how she would fight crime and improve the economy, she replied that she would build passenger rail lines. (Look it up, it's true.)

As a man of science, I can't disagree with a statement containing could and possibly.

And in an infinite universe there is certainly a place where this shit is the absolute truth.

Yeah...or it could cause them to migrate to cities where the economy is not limited to the industries of farming, fishing and prostitution.

Who knows what neo-Malthusianism will come up with next?

  6. colson:

Here's a funny: What about the male prostitutes? Half of the "girls" working the road in Makati were men. I would venture a guess the person writing the report has never been in the Phillippines?

  7. epobirs:

I'm pretty sure there is something more innate to humans that causes prostitution.

Everything else is just details of a variant story.

  8. smurfy:

But if the farming and fishing industries dry up, where will the Johns get their money? And can we now use climate change as an affirmative defense to a soliciting charge?

  9. ClimateReview:

"$US50 billion has been spent on Global Warming research since ’90 with no proof of a man-made affect (Carter’08)"

So, that's where are tax-payers dollars are being spent...
