99-Cent Kindle Book Update
For the second straight day, I have sold fifty copies of BMOC, for a total of a hundred in two days, at 99-cents. Fifty copies is more than I was selling in several weeks at the old price. Thanks to Glen Reynolds for linking the idea.

Agree with Steve White re: at .99 cents had to buy it. I'm curious about it and .99 isn't much to satisfy my curiosity and not much to throw away if that's what I'm doing. Note to self: but actually can't afford to get curious too often. (just got my kindle & am new to ebooks.)

I always wondered why some Kindle books were so expensive. I can understand why some print books are that expensive-- the economies of scale just aren't present in printing loads of physical copies of certain books that are of limited interest. But with electronic delivery, all that changes-- and yet, these books are still going on Kindle for upwards of $20. I realize not everybody wants to read books on these topics, but how many customers decide not to read them *because* of the price remains to be seen. I suspect the price point of maximum profit for many Kindle books is a lot further south than their authors think it is.

Oh look, another impossible unsustainable niche success that's just a flash in the pan and won't last because EVERYONE KNOWS books are supposed to cost TEN DOLLARS, and it's self-published anyway.
How many of these is it going to take before people admit that being your own publisher and selling cheap books is something you can actually *DO*?

Judith -- FYI you might want to check out the top 100 free Kindle books at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/digital-text -- from that list I ended up reading War and Peace and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, two books that I probably would have gone to my deathbed without actually physically buying and reading them had I not seen them free. There's quite a few classics in the top 100 free.

I've had BMOC sitting on my Kindle DX for some time, but whatever excerpt I had seen didn't impress enough bring it to the top of the pile. Until yesterday!
Having run out of desirable alternatives, I was expecting the beginning to bog down, but it never happened. This was the only book I've read in the last year that kept me up until 5 AM to finish.
Fortunately, I hardly ever sleep for more than 45 minutes or so at a time, and no more than 3 or 4 times a day and my only regret is the lack of a sequel.

The $0.99 price point is a great idea and I hope the economics of it work for you so you can continue to do it. It certainly made it a very easy decision for me to buy BMOC to read on my Kindle. I got around to it a couple of days ago after finishing what I was reading and I loved it. You've left it perfecty set up for a sequel too, if you have a mind to write one. I hope you will.
