Why Politicians Like a Crisis
From Q&O, a running tally of opinion polls with the public's approval rating of Congress.
The answer to my question, "Why do Politicians Like a Crisis" seems simple: Because we train them to do so. American politicians are never so well loved as in a time of crisis. Just look at the September 11 bump for Congress.

Could we have a scale that is vaguely useful on the X axis? It doesn't have to be linear, but maybe exponential or something?

On 9/11 our congress spoke with a single voice, and enjoyed approval ratings of 84%. Today they're frittering away their days 'investigating' everything, taking partisan pot shots at one another, and doing nothing...and enjoy an 18% approval rating. Is there a lesson in here somewhere?

Actually, I highly approve of Congress doing nothing. In fact, the more nothing they manage to do, the more I approve.
